Summer Solstice Renaissance Faire 2019

This post will be a treat, for it is a faire I have not been to, the  Summer Solstice Renaissance Faire was held at the Pavilion St. Cantine Field Saugerties, NY.  This faire is run to benefit the UlsterCounty SPCA.

Let’s first discuss the town of Saugerties. First beginning in the 1650’s as a sawmill, being located on the Hudson River it soon became a stop for traveling to Albany, NY.  During the revolutionary War, British fleet used the anchorage was a jumping off point to send raiding parties to burn numerous vessels and buildings in the area.

Today the town is known for its contribution to the art and entertainment culture. The legendary group “The Band” played in a house called “The Big Pink”, in fact not only did The Band record music there, it was also the location of the famous Bob Dylan “basement tapes”.

In 1994 the town was the home of Woodstock ’94.  It is 46 miles from Woodstock, NY (must also remember the original Woodstock was not located in Woodstock NY, but at Max Yasgur’s farm in Bethel, NY 46 miles away).

As I stated this is the first time attending this faire, so let’s get right to it.

Nightwing Whitehead- A fashion designer that was selling some beautiful clothing.

Knights of Gore— a full contact fighting troupe, they had an encampment. I have seen this group at several faires, they put on a great demonstration.

You could fight a knight

Karmic Creations- Featuring handblown glass, gemstone bracelets and info on crystals, tarot,

Atlantis Emporium- Was very nice to meet her, she sold some wonderful items.

Many people had tents selling products

There was music

Albersland Jewelry- Was really great to meet them. They sold some pretty impressive custom made jewelry.

This is a small faire compared to the others I attend throughout the year.  As I always state size of a faire does not mean any less enjoyment.  This is a good location for a faire, and with a little imagination, hard work and time, the promoters can make this one of the biggest events in the area.
Next time: More Faires
