Saratoga Springs International Film Festival

I am proud to present in my post; information about theSaratoga Springs International Film Festival, which is being held on September 17, 2016; and there are high hopes for its success.

Saratoga Springs N.Y. is well known for its horse track, which began in 1863. This makes the track the third oldest racetrack in the United States. Saratoga Springs is also known for its cultural and arts attractions, which it is the hub for the Capitol and Upstate Region in New York. Over the years, many people have discussed why there has not been an international film festival in Saratoga Springs before.;

Having an International Film Festival in Saratoga Springs is a way to promote the area, support the independent film industry, particularly those of local films.  For full disclosure, I have been asked to be one of the judges at this event.

This new film festival is the brain child of many people; most notably is the director of the event, Caitlin Stedman. After leaving Vancouver Film School in 2012, Ms. Stedman has written and directed numerous short films, documentaries and promotional videos in Vancouver, BC, Glens Falls, Queensbury, Fort Edward, Whitehall, Salem, Lake George, Saratoga Springs, and Hudson Falls, NY. Ms. Stedman also owns Snarky Aardvark Films, LLC., which is a production company based in Queensbury, NY.

To show more disclosure, Ms. Stedman has directed me in several short movies. These movies include Home, and Lemonaid.

The film festival will have numerous categories such as Short Films (under 45 mins), Feature Films (over 45 min) and Student Films (2-120 mins long).  If you have directed a movie, or perhaps know someone who has, check out their website for more information.

This is the first year of the film festival, and it is currently looking for sponsorships. This is a wonderful opportunity to promote great independent film at the same time having your business or organization be recognized for its contribution.  For more information, please visit their sponsor’s page. You may also visit the Saratoga Springs International Film Festival if you are interested in participating as exhibitors and performance artists.

If you are located in the area, and want to volunteer, please contact the Saratoga International Film Festival at their website.  This is a wonderful chance for you to become part of a great new tradition in Saratoga Springs, NY.

I am very excited about this event, and I hope that you will have the opportunity to the Saratoga Springs International Film Festival on September 17, 2016. This festival will become a major event in the area, and will soon be recognized as a premier film event in the world, and you do not want to miss the very first one.

  1. The Saratoga International Film Festival sounds like a blast. I know between Boise and Sun Valley there are a few smaller festivals, and I'm not too far from Utah. I really should try to volunteer at one in my area. I know it would be a great experience.

  3. Well, I guess I don't have to ask if you're going to a volunteer at the Saratoga Springs IFF - I think they should appoint you their press agent. You sure did a super job here.
Have fun when you go, as I know you will

    1. I am not their press agent, just putting this out as one of my blogs.
I am going to be a judge for the movies, which is going to be pretty exciting. Thanks for committing.

  4. Interesting to hear about this new int'l film festival, William. In Canada, the Toronto Int'l Film Fest is the biggest and best attended. We have a small film fest here in Gimli, Manitoba, where I live, and the unique thing about it is that they mount the screen right in the waters of Lake Winnipeg, and you sit on the beach after dark and watch a free feature film They have short films and docs in other venues throughout the week, but the beach showings are definitely the most popular.

  5. I am a big fan of film festivals that show independent and international films. The town I live in, Montclair, N.J., started a film festival 4 years ago and it has been a big success, growing from one weekend initially to 10 days this year. I wish the people in Saratoga Springs the best of luck with this venture and hope they have the same level of success we have had here.

  6. Some years ago, I went through the film festival circuit with a short film I wrote and starred in. I have a lot of appreciation for a new film festival, especially one that also focuses on local talent. We have a ton of them here in Los Angeles (of course), but I think hometown festivals can be even better.

Coincidentally, I was born in Glens Falls and lived in Queensbury when I was 3 and 4 years old. However, I moved away when I was 4 and I never get back there so I doubt I will get a chance to attend the Saratoga Film Festival. Though I hope the locals do so that we can have another great film festival.

    1. That is coincidence, considering the person who runs the event, Caitlin Stedman, is also from Queensbury.

  7. Will personally not attend the Saratoga Springs International Film Festival. Have you made a film of some sort that will be shown?

    1. I am nothing in this adventure, except judging and helping to try to promote it, the brainchild of this event is Caitlin Stedman, and if it becomes successful, it is because of her.

  9. A film festival - how exciting! I am big on "the arts.

It is too far for me to visit but we are spoilt for choice here in the UK.

  10. Three points this week:
    (1) International? Will any foreign films be screened? If the focus is going to be on local independent films, then perhaps "Indie Film Festival" would be a better title - that would sound edgier anyway, yes?
    (2) It's good to see that there'll be a Short Films category for attention-challenged moviegoers like myself.
    (3) I watched the Home movie; I see that Caitlin cast you as a heavy of sorts. When I clicked the LemonAid movie player button, however, I got the following message: "An error occurred. Please try again later." Maybe you could drop a note to Caitlin about that.

    1. It is international, we have had entries from Australia to Europe. At the same time, we are also going to try to highlight local filmmakers giving them the chance to show their movies. I too noticed that "Lemonaid" link is not working, and yes I played a heavy in that one too. I will tell her about it.
