Looking back at 2017: Jeeps, Art, Faires, and a Whole Bunch More.

Another year has gone by, and now it is time to reminisce about it.  We always look backwards and view the past time with some fondness, but there is always sadness too.

The following are highlights of my year, and with links to some posts where I commented upon them.
Krampus I created with Daz Studio

As many of my readers will remember my novel “Legend of the Mystic Knights” is being republished by Immanent Banter Publishing, we will have more about this in future posts.  In order to promote my novel, I have been using Daz Studio, which is a 3d picture and animation rendering software. You can read about this in my previous blog.

I also purchased a new vehicle, a 2017 Jeep Renegade. Here I described why I bought this vehicle, and my initial thoughts about purchasing a Soul, any why this did not happen.
Calypso of the Vixens en Garde

In March, I heard some sad news of the leader of the Vixens En Gaurde fighting troupe, Alexandra Hastings, (AKA Calypso in the group) passing away.  I will say that Calypso was beloved by all that met her, and she is truly missed. Our love and thoughts go out to her family.
Vixens en Garde at the Saratoga Public Library

I was not too soon afterwards (April), I was able to see the other members of the Vixens en Garde at the Saratoga Public Library for Shakespeare Day.  As usual these talented ladies put on a wonderful performance.

As normal, I attended numerous medieval/renaissance faires throughout the year.  The following are listed with a link to my post describing them.

Vermont Winter Renaissance Faire (March) - The first time I ever attended an inside festival. It was a bit of a drive for me, but definitely worth it.

Community Renaissance Faire (May) – The first time I attended this faire.

Robin Hood’s Faire (May) – Another faire where it was the first time I attended. As the name describes, it is centered around the time of Robin Hood.

Mayfaire on the Green

Mayfaire on the Green (May) – A fair that started out small, and is now growing into a major festival.

New York Capitil District Renaissance Festival (June)- A faire that has increased in size every year.  I enjoy this faire, and it is located near my apartment.

Vermont Renaissance Festival (June)- Another faire I attended for the very first time. Same people who put on the Vermont Winter Renaissance Faire.

Mutton and Mead Medieval Festival (June)– One of my particular favorites.

Market of the Moons Renaissance Fair AKA Market of the Moons (July)– With a new location, and a new look and a new name. This faire is one of my new favorites. This faire is loaded with great entertainers, performers and vendors. UPDATE: In 2018 there will be TWO weekends of this faire, July 21-22, and July 28-29.

Medieval Renaissance Faire at the Windfall Dutch Barn (August)– A great faire located in the Cherry Valley, NY.  If this faire does not impress you, the beauty of the area will.

Silver Kingdom Renaissance Festival

Silver Kingdom Renaissance Festival (August)- Always a pleasure to attend this festival and meet the promoters.  I was just informed that this year (2018), this faire will not be held, due to personal issues with the promoters.  I look forward to its return.

Connecticut Renaissance Faire (September to early October)– If you read my post from last year, you know how much I love this faire.  I enjoyed it so much, I went twice.

Royalty and Rogues Festival- Another faire I first attended, and I am looking forward to going back again this year.

Not only did I have the opportunity to go to renaissance/medieval faires but to other events this past year.

World’s Largest Garage Sale, Warrensburgh, NY- The title says it all.

Hyde Collection, Glens Falls, NY (All year long)- A wonderful collection or paintings, pottery, and sculptures.  This is one of the treasures seated in the Adirondack Mountains.

Besides just recapping the year, I wanted to provide you a list of medieval/renaissance faires in case you wanted to visit one during a vacation.  Check out each faires website to confirm location and dates.
In 2018, I will again review the faires and events that I attend during the year.  I hope you will get a chance to see some yourselves, when you do, leave a comment below on my blog and tell us about it.

Next time:  We will revisit some performers and vendors of these medieval faires.

  4. Happy New Year William - Sounds like 2017 was a great success - getting your book published (congrats! - I'm waiting for the day when I can say "I knew him when...), a new vehicle and so many faires. How are you going to top all this in 2018?

  6. William, I am so sad to hear about the loss of Calypso from the Vixens. I know from your blogs how highly you have spoken of her.

I hope 2018 is even more full of joy and experiences than 2017 was for you.
